Bulkship Management AS is a fast growing technical ship management company. Bulkship is continuously working to reduce the fleet’s pollution with their environment friendly management. Our collaboration started in 2010 and has grown a lot over the years.
BACK FROM BIO-OIL (EAL) TO MINERAL OIL
Bulkship Management ASoperates its vessels in accordance with the strictest international standards. They chose early on to integrate bio-oils into their systems that could leak and pollute the sea. All this to create an environmentally friendly and sustainable operation. The fleet was partially converted from mineral oil to Environmental Acceptable Lubricants (EAL) oil. Many vessels are sailing in American waters and switching to EAL’s was desired in order to be in compliance with theVGP/VIDA regulations. At the time, they weren’t aware of theSupreme Ventus®benefits and used our standardstern tube seals.
The use of bio-oil caused lots of trouble. A costly operation, because bio-oil is way more expensive than mineral oil. Over time, they experienced that bio-oil and the propulsion system didn’t work well together. The bio-oil had a detrimental effect on thelip sealsand liner. In order to make their vessels greener, safer and better for the environment, Bulkship decided to look for alternative technical solutions. They were looking for an environmentally friendly solution, without the risk of polluting the sea.

Led by Vincent van der Heiden (Account Manager Lagersmit), Bulkship switched towards air-type sealing systems. Zero emissions of oil was still required, but this time again with their trusted mineral oil. The simple and easy scope of installation convinced them to choose the Supreme Ventus over other air-type seals. We’re still the process of retrofitting their whole fleet from conventional stern tube seals to air-type seals. For all vessels with conventional seals, the upcoming dry-dock is accompanied by aretrofitto our most popular seal.
