Together they reached a positive agreement to convert the majority of the fleet to the sustainable and VGP-compliant Supreme Ventus® stern tube air sealing system. Lagersmit's air-type seals are designed to eliminate oil emissions and enhance the reliability of the entire propulsion line, perfectly aligning with Solvang's mission to reduce its ecological footprint.
Solvang's fleet is set to be equipped with the advanced Supreme Ventus air-type seals. The Supreme Ventus provided by Lagersmit will enhance performance, reduce maintenance, and increase operational efficiency.

“After a poor experience with bio-oil on our stern tubes, Solvang has been introducing air seals on all new vessels delivered after 2017. Although bio-oil is environmentally friendly in case of leaks, it significantly increases the risk of leakages and bearing damage. Water contamination degrades bio-oil, making it challenging to maintain its quality.
Based on our experience with air seals and conventional oil, and the ongoing issues with bio-oil systems, we decided to retrofit our existing fleet with air seals, replacing conventional seals and bio-oil.
After evaluating different manufacturers, Lagersmit was selected for an agreement to retrofit a large group of vessels in the fleet during scheduled class dockings from 2022 to 2024.
In our opinion, Lagersmit offers a straightforward and efficient system that is easy for the crew to install and use. Air seals eliminate the risk of oil spills through shaft seals, allowing us to use conventional high-quality oil for bearing lubrication.”
