Venturi Fleet Management SA operates in US waters and used to apply oil-lubricated stern tube seals on all of their ships.

This was in line with the VGP, but with the stricter regulations this has changed and their vessels didn’t meet the requirements anymore. A solution to make vessels VGP compliant is to switch from mineral oils to EALs (bio oils). However, the use of EAL’s comes along with a few disadvantages.

1. Bio oils are relatively expensive compared to mineral oils
2. Bio oils can be rare to obtain at some places in the world
3. Bio oils don’t lubricate as well as mineral oils
   
   

All these facts made Venturi decide not to choose for EALs and they had to search for new solutions to meet the VGP standard. That is the moment where Lagersmit stepped in: we introduced our Supreme Ventus® air-type seal. This sealing solution has no oil-to-water interface which makes the seal VGP compliant. Other advantages of this system are Low Cost of Ownership and 5 year warranty. This together with the cost advantage of the Supreme Ventus made Venturi decide to retrofit the entire fleet to our sealing solution
